Understanding Meditation

A woman in meditationMeditation is used by many people and for a variety of uses. Some use meditation to help them focus on the achievements they wish for the day ahead, some to help clear their mind, some for their own spiritual journey, and more for their own uses. Understanding meditation and using it is one of the most powerful ways to experience a peaceful mind and heart.

It takes time and practice to achieve a true meditative state, so if you are just embarking on this journey, do bear this in mind. I am often told by people that they can’t (for example) visualise. Visualisation isn’t everything, but it is used in many different meditation techniques. In turn I ask them to close their eyes and think of their ideal Christmas present, or of someone they really fancy, just for a few seconds. When that has been done I point out how vivid and clearly they saw the image of what they want, and ask them if they still think they can’t visualise!

In this sense. we meditate all the time on those things which we value. Once we have made some space to value inner peace, the practice will flow on from that.

I use meditation to help facilitate a link between ourselves and our spirit guides and angels, but it is a very useful tool to aid clearer thinking to help resolve some of the issues we face in life. It’s too easy to become bogged down going over the same ground when trying to find answers to problems we face. Having the ability to clear the mind even if just for a small period of time can be really useful and can help bring fresh ideas to the process.

I also use meditation to help facilitate inner peace and well being, either with guided meditations or just the opportunity to sit in a quiet safe space for inner contemplation and the exploration of self.

Here are a couple of meditations for you to try.

* * *

… First find a quiet place in which to sit, preferably sit in an upright position with both feet place firmly on the ground and with your hands loosely laying in your lap, most importantly be comfortable

… then close your eyes and let your imagination to take you to a beach, feel the warmth of the sun on your back and a feeling of calm flow through you, hear the water lapping the shore, the different colours reflecting from the water glistening in the sunshine

… just off the shoreline you can see some very large crystals, these can be whatever you wish them to be

… sense the energy they are giving off and carried by the water, allow yourself to go into the water, now feel the energy enter your body, submerge yourself and allow the energy from the crystals flow freely through you, you may stay there for as long as you wish.

… Sit in a quiet space, both feet firmly on the floor and hands loosely in your lap

… using your imagination take yourself on a journey along a path in the countryside, sensing the path and the hedgerows, the wildlife the bird song, the colours that you associate with the countryside, greens, reds, orange, pink, whatever colours you feel drawn to, allow these colours to bathe you, sensing the energy they give to you

… feel at peace and calm within, sit for as long as you wish, it may be useful to write anything down that may have been given you whilst in either of these meditations, keep a diary of your experiences, they may be useful to you in your future.
