Dreams:

First of all let me get one fact very clear, we all dream, this has been demonstrated scientifically, if we did not dream we would be severely disturbed and unable to function as a normal human being; dreams are essential to maintain our sanity, but there are many who do not remember their dreams, its ok this does not mean there is something wrong with you! It’s just that there are many who do not remember their dreams.

Research shows that during sleep we go through a series of NREM and REM states, our first REM state occurs approximately an hour or so after we first drift off to sleep, this is a particularly deep state, we may remain in this state for about 90 minutes, then we go into the NREM state a lighter sleep state, and we are here for about 90 minutes or so, we alternate between these two states about 5 to 7 times a night depending on how long we sleep for.
It has been shown that a longer period of REM sleep occurs shortly before we wake, it is generally the dreams we have during this period that we remember more easily upon waking, it is also intriguing to realize we have also had a series of other dreams throughout the night, but may not remember these.
The theory is that NREM dreams are about sorting out mundane daily matters, and REM dreams are concerned with much deeper intrinsically spiritual aspects of our lives.
There are three positive aspects to dreaming process; first our mental well being, during sleep our brain processes the issues of the day, the second aspect is the emotional; we know our emotions are closely tied up with our mental thoughts, and we can be emotional in our dreams, and the third the spiritual aspect; how much is your own deeply and unique spirituality connected to what you dream?
The best way to move into this complex and revealing area is to look back through history, and when you begin to delve into the history of dream interpretation I hope you find it as fascinating and enlightening as I have, dream interpretation has a very long history, which has been conveniently been forgotten by us in the west.
Some of you may have heard and even read books by Fraud or Jung, but these are modern day interpretations, but dream interpretation goes back much further than this.
The Egyptians were deeply interested in dream interpretation, certainly from about 4000BC to 2000BC, although the effects of their studies could go back much further, many monuments and statues around Egypt bear hieroglyphics concerning fragments of dreams, including statements such as “A bed on fire means you partner is being unfaithful” and many more which can be found around the shrine of Ascepius-Imhotep, a famous Egyptian physician and healer.
Most ancient civilizations took dream interpretation further than the mundane and regarded it as a valuable means of ascertaining higher consciousness and spiritual truths.
The ancient Chinese were also deeply committed to dream interpretation, they believed it was vital to look beyond the material and delve into the spiritual realm, an attitude reflected by Taoism, the philosophy and religion of China, in Chinese folklore the butterfly is reminiscent of the soul.
Dreamwork is also part of the cultural tradition of various North American Indian and Australian Aboriginal tribes, who use interpretation to help them attain spiritual fulfilment and to live peacefully together, the Huron and Iroquois tribes of North America hold actual dream festivals, where they meet and discuss their various dreams and use collective information as a means of determining their future direction in society.
Similar respect for the power and usefulness of dreams is shown by other peoples too, such as the Maoris in New Zealand, the Zulus in South Africa, the Temiar-Senois and Patani people in Malaysia, and the Inuit’s living in Hudson Bay, in fact it’s difficult to find any significant area of the world where dream interpretation is not valued.
Your first step would be to make a dream diary, here you can note your dreams down and keep for reference, but because you now have a record you can refer back to it at any time, if you can relate the issues you were experiencing at the time you may be able to see how the dreams helped resolve them, it may be that these periods you became aware of a moment of enlightenment or inspiration to the answer to these issues.
Dreams are also an opportunity for spirit to communicate to you, and communications from you angels, they look for every opportunity to let you know of their presence, and that they are there to help.
There are many books available to help you interpret your dreams, and methods of analyse of your dreams, I will place some suggested reading on this page for your interest at a later time.
